Back in 2017, we got an initial accreditation for our Montessori programme from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), the international body in charge of accrediting schools for the Montessori teaching method. At that time, we were using the horizontal grouping system in our preschool. For us to get the full accreditation, we were advised to adopt the vertical grouping system, which is the international standard of setting up Montessori classrooms.
Our preschool classes are now arranged based on the vertical grouping system, and MACTE has given us full accreditation. Mr Abraham Ogunkanmbi, our Head of Greensprings Training College who spearheaded the project, talks about our journey to becoming fulling accredited. He also shared the difference between the horizontal and vertical grouping system, and why the vertical grouping system is better.
