Greensprings and three other schools have been invited for the qualifying rounds of the 2024 NFL Flag Football Pro Bowl Championship. The qualifiers, organized by the Nigeria America Football Association (NAFA), will determine the sole representative from Nigeria at the championship scheduled to be held in Orlando, Florida, United States.
Speaking on why we are among the invited schools, Mr Afolabi Amusan, Assistant Principal (Enhancement), said Greensprings flag football teams are considered to be among the strongest in the country. The maiden edition of the secondary schools flag football league, held in 2022, was won by our teams – – our boys won the boys category and our girls won the girls category.
Concerning the modalities of the qualifying rounds, President of NAFA, Mr Babajide Akeredolu, said invited schools will play their qualifiers between November 7th and 8th in a home and away format to help pick the two teams that would compete in the grand finale of the qualifiers between 27th and 28th November.
The four invited schools are made up of two Lagos schools and two Abuja schools. The winner from the Lagos schools qualifier will then play the winner from the Abuja schools qualifier to pick the sole ticket for the World Championship in the United States.
Mr Babajide also stated that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure the best team represents Nigeria at the World Championship in February 2024.
The NFL Flag Football Pro Bowl Championship features the top girls’ and boys’ youth flag teams from across the country and around the world.
It is the largest youth flag football league in the United States serving youth athletes ages 4 to 17 years old across the country.
